A trio of exhibits developed for the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences uses digital media and 3D models to create unique, individualized storytelling experiences.

The Fossil Block Theater showcases a striking 14’ by 8’ replica of two fossilized dinosaurs believed to have died together in a predator-versus-prey encounter, though paleontologists continue to explore other possible scenarios. I implemented a projection mapping system for this immersive theater, bringing to life the various hypotheses scientists have proposed regarding the origins of this extraordinary fossil pair.

Next in the exhibition is a simulated CT Scanner, where visitors can “scan” the fossilized skull of a Thescelosaurus to search for its inner ear bones and gain insight into what it’s hearing may have been like. This hands-on exhibit incorporates a 32” Looking Glass holographic display, lasers, and other interactive digital tools to fully engage guests.

The final Dino Appearance Interactive invites visitors to explore the science of paleoartistry, the creative and scientific process used to envision what prehistoric creatures may have looked like during Earth’s magnificent Mesozoic Era.
